MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have picked up the option on the contract of outfielder Jason Kubel for 2011.

According to MLB.com, Kubel will receive a salary of $5.25 million next year.

Kubel hit .249 with 21 home runs and 92 runs batted in over 143 games in 2010, a slight drop from his 2009 totals of 28 homers, 103 runs batted in and a .300 average.

The 28-year-old South Dakota native had signed a two-year deal with a club option in January 2009. He has spent his entire six-year career with the Twins and has a lifetime batting average of .271 with 92 homers and 371 RBI in 654 games.

Kubel has struggled in the postseason each of the last two years, notching just one hit in 22 at-bats with 11 strikeouts.

The Twins also declined to exercise the option on the contract of infielder Nick Punto, who will receive a $500,000 buyout to become a free agent. He appeared in just 88 games for the Twins this past season while dealing with a hamstring injury and hit .238 with a homer and 20 runs batted in.
