ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves have released outfielder Melky Cabrera and reliever Takashi Saito.
Cabrera, who arrived last winter as part of the trade that sent pitcher Javier Vazquez to the New York Yankees, saw action in 147 games for the Braves this year, batting .255 with a career-low four home runs and 42 RBI. He had one season of arbitration eligibility remaining.
The 26-year-old switch-hitter is a career .267 hitter with 40 homers and 270 RBI in 716 games.
Saito, 40, posted a 2-3 record and 2.83 earned run average in 56 appearances, but missed most of the final month of the season with a shoulder problem.
The Braves also removed minor league catcher J.C. Boscan from their 40-man roster.
