MINNEAPOLIS, Minn -- The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that former AL MVP Justin Morneau will be out for the entire postseason as he continues to recover from the effects of a concussion.

The Twins had originally stated on Saturday that Morneau would not be on the roster for the division series with the hopes that he would be available if the club advanced to the American League Championship Series, but MLB.com reported that he has now been shut down for the rest of the year.

Morneau has been sidelined since suffering a concussion on July 7, when he took a knee to the head sliding into second base trying to break up a double play.

The 29-year-old Morneau hit .345 with a .437 on-base percentage, 18 home runs and 56 RBI in 81 games before getting injured.
