Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Royals have picked up the option year on outfielder David DeJesus' contract for the 2011 season.
No terms of the deal were officially announced, but MLB.com is reporting that the 30-year-old will be paid $6 million following the expiration of a five- year deal worth $13.8 million.
DeJesus had his season end prematurely on July 22 when he broke his right thumb trying to make a leaping catch against the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium.
He had been the target of numerous contending teams looking to bolster their lineup for the final two months of the season before the injury.
DeJesus finished the 2010 season hitting .318 with five home runs and 37 runs batted in.
Over eight seasons with the Royals, he is a .289 career hitter with 61 homers and 390 RBI.
