CLEVELAND -- The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday that first baseman and AL MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera will miss the final six games of the season with a high right ankle sprain.

Cabrera suffered the injury during Monday's 6-3 loss at Cleveland, turning the ankle while retreating back to first base on a pick-off throw from Indians catcher Luke Carlin in the seventh inning.

The Venezuela native batted .328 with 45 doubles, a career-high 38 home runs and an MLB-leading 126 RBI in 150 games.
