ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Cardinals have announced that pitcher Adam Wainwright likely will not pitch again in 2010.

The right-hander was scratched from his next scheduled start Thursday against Colorado as a precaution due to a right forearm muscle strain.

Wainwright earned his career-best 20th victory on Friday with a win over Chicago and will finish the season 20-11 with a 2.42 earned run average in 33 starts.

He ranks second in the National League in wins, ERA and innings pitched -- with 230 1/3 -- while he is third in the circuit with a career-high 213 strikeouts.

The Cardinals trail NL Central leading Cincinnati by six games with six to play and will be eliminated from contention by either one loss or a Reds win.
