CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin was released from a Miami hospital Wednesday after being struck with a broken bat in his chest on Sunday.

Colvin will return to his home in South Carolina. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2010 season.

Colvin was on third base during the second inning when Welington Castillo hit a broken bat ground-rule double to left. As Colvin was running down the third base line to score, the splintered bat flew into the runner, catching him on the left side and causing a puncture wound below the collarbone.

The 25-year-old rookie was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital for X-rays and was reportedly treated to prevent a collapsed lung since air entered the player's chest wall.

Colvin wound up hitting .254 with 20 homers and 56 RBI in 135 games for the Cubs.
