CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds added some depth for their playoff run by acquiring utilityman Willie Bloomquist from the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

In return, the Royals will get either a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Bloomquist, who is able to play every position except for pitcher or catcher, appeared in 72 games with the Royals this season. He was batting .265 with three home runs and 17 RBI.

However, the 32-year-old will not be eligible for the post-season. The Reds hold a six-game advantage on St. Louis in the NL Central entering play Monday.
