Los Angeles, CA Ė Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez was activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday and started in left field in an 8-5 win over the Reds.
Ramirez, who was put on the DL July 20, retroactive to July 17, due to a right calf strain, went hitless in three at-bats and fanned twice before being replaced in left field by Reed Johnson to start the sixth inning.
He was hitting .317 with eight homers and 39 RBI over 61 games at the time he was shelved. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout Friday, while playing five innings in left field for the Single-A Inland Empire 66ers.
The Dodgers opened a spot for Ramirez by designating infielder Juan Castro for assignment. He made his only appearance with the Dodgers last Sunday and started at shortstop, going 0-for-3 with a walk in a 13-1 defeat at Atlanta.
Castro was released by Philadelphia on July 21 after batting .198 with 13 RBI in 54 games with the Phillies. He was signed by Dodgers as a free agent on August 3.
