PHILADELPHIA - Roger Bernadina belted a three-run homer, and the Washington Nationals, despite losing phenom pitcher Stephen Strasburg to injury, defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-1, in the second of three games at Citizens Bank Park.

Strasburg lasted 4 1/3 frames, giving up one run on two hits while fanning six, before exiting with an apparent injury to his throwing elbow. He winced sharply after throwing a pitch and shook his right arm in pain and was forced to exit the game.

Doug Slaton (3-1) earned the win for 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Ian Desmond tied a career high with four hits and scored twice, while Adam Kennedy and Ivan Rodriguez drove in two runs apiece in Washington’s second win in three games.

Ryan Howard drove in the lone run in his first game back from the disabled list, as Philadelphia fell for the second time in three games. Kyle Kendrick (8-6) struggled in 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks.
