ARLINGTON, Tx. - New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was out of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers as he was with his wife for the birth of their third child.

Teixeira's wife, Leigh, gave birth to a son, Williams Charles, on Tuesday. Teixeira, who was at home in Connecticut, will reportedly miss the two-game set against the Rangers.

Teixeira is batting .259 with a team-best 26 homers and 85 runs batted in this season. He has been particularly hot of late with five homers in his last seven games.

Newly-acquired Lance Berkman was the starting first baseman Tuesday.

Second baseman Robinson Cano didn't start due to a fever, but came in as a pinch-hitter and was used as a defensive replacement.
