SEATTLE -- Oft-injured Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Erik Bedard will have left shoulder surgery on Friday.

It will be the lefty's third surgery in as many years on his pitching shoulder, and this procedure will be performed by team medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan and the famed Dr. Lewis Yocum.

Bedard's last surgery came on Aug. 14, 2009 to repair a torn labrum. He has yet to pitch this season while rehabilitating the injury. His last major league appearance came on July 25, 2009.

Since the Mariners traded for the native of Navan, Ont., he has been a huge bust, pitching in only 30 games from 2008-10. In that timeframe, he is 11-7 with a 3.24 ERA.

Over seven seasons in the majors, the first five with Baltimore, Bedard is 51-41 with a 3.71 ERA.
