TORONTO - The Cleveland Indians shipped outfielder Austin Kearns to the New York Yankees on Friday.
The Yankees will give the Indians a player to be named later or cash, on or before August 20.
Kearns was pulled off the field in the midst of the Indiansí 8-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Friday after notching his second hit in three at-bats.
Signed to a minor league deal before the season, Kearns hit well enough to earn a spot in the Indiansí regular lineup. In 84 games in 2010, the 30-year- old has a .272 batting average to go with a .354 on-base percentage, eight homers and 42 RBI.
In 926 career games, Kearns is a .257 hitter with 113 homers and 464 RBI.
