WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals have dealt infielder Cristian Guzman to the Texas Rangers for prospects.

A story on the Nationals' official website cited Guzman's agent in reporting the move, which was confirmed by a team source.

The Rangers' acquisition of Guzman helps to offset the loss of second baseman Ian Kinsler, who was placed on the disabled list this week with a strained left groin. Texas had already acquired Jorge Cantu from the Florida Marlins on Thursday.

Guzman, 32, hit .282 in 89 games with the Nationals this season, playing mostly second base. But over 11 seasons with Minnesota and Washington, Guzman has primarily been a shortstop. A two-time all-star, Guzman owns a career .272 batting average and .308 on-base percentage with 62 home runs and 466 RBI.
