The bat Pete Rose used to record his final hit has been sold for nearly $160,000.

The 34-inch, 32-ounce black Mizuno bat Rose used when he collected hit No.

4,256 off San Francisco Giants pitcher Greg Minton on Aug. 14, 1986 was sold Thursday in an online auction by Lelands.com. Rose's hit total is a major league record.

Seven bids were received for the bat, which sold for $158,776 ≠ less than the anticipated price.

Lelands.com expected the bat to fetch a higher price, but Rose's lifetime ban from baseball and a bad economy likely played a role in the lower price.

Rose was banned from baseball in 1989 after it was determined he bet on baseball games involving the team he was managing, the Cincinnati Reds.

The historic bat had been on display in Rose's restaurant in Boca Raton, Fla. It was eventually bought by sports memorabilia collector Richard C.

Angrist, who auctioned it through Lelands.com.
