OAKLAND, Calif. -- Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz returns to the rotation Wednesday, as he has been activated from the 15-day disabled list to start against the Oakland Athletics.

Buchholz landed on the disabled list in late June because of a strained left hamstring, which he suffered while running the bases in a June 26 game against San Francisco.

The 25-year-old right-hander, who was selected to the American League All-Star team but did not participate, has a record of 10-4 with a 2.45 earned run average in 15 starts this season.
