MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau was put on the 15-day disabled list following Thursday's 8-7 loss to the White Sox due to a concussion.

The move is retroactive to July 8. Morneau suffered the injury sliding into second base trying to break up a double play at Toronto. He's eligible to return next Friday.

For the season, Morneau is hitting .345, third-best in the majors, with 18 homers and 56 RBI in 81 games.

The Twins announced that pitcher Jeff Manship will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take the roster spot of Morneau.
