Bonds holds HR record: Aaron

ATLANTA -- Hank Aaron believes Barry Bonds should keep major league baseball's home run record.

"In all fairness to everybody, I just don't see how you really can do a thing like that and just say somebody isn't the record holder anymore, and let's go back to the way that it was," Aaron told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Aaron hit 755 home runs in his career to break the previous mark of 714 by Babe Ruth. Bonds, who did not play last season, surpassed Aaron in '07 and has 762 career home runs.

Commissioner Bud Selig has indicated that he's given some thought to returning the record to Aaron if it is proved Bonds used steroids

ALOMAR STILL INVITED

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Blue Jays CEO Paul Beeston and general manager J.P. Ricciardi said yesterday that an invite to guest coach Robbie Alomar, accused of having unprotected sex when he knew he had AIDS, is still open and up to the second baseman.

SANTANA AGREES TO DEAL

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Right-hander Ervin Santana and the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a four-year contract worth about $30 million US yesterday, a day after their scheduled arbitration hearing was postponed.

Santana rebounded from a sub-par season in 2007 to go 16-7 with a 3.49 ERA for the AL West champion Angels last year.

BURNETT SETS TARGET

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Yankees projected rotation of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Pettitte and Joba Chamberlain figures to be its strongest since 2003 -- when the Yankees made their last World Series appearance.

"There is no back end," Burnett said. "You've got five starters that can win, you know, 15-plus, I mean, you know, should."

AROUND THE BASES

Outfielder Elijah Dukes, left-handed starter John Lannan and catcher Jesus Flores are among 23 players who agreed to terms on 2009 contracts with the Washington Nationals ... Livan Hernandez and the New York Mets agreed to a minor league contract. Hernandez was 13-11 with a 6.05 ERA last season with Minnesota and Colorado.
