What a major-league scout says: "He's a great add for the Yanks. He'll play well for the final two months with them in the hunt.

"I can see why Philadelphia moved him for a couple of reasons. They wern't going anywhere with him and he has 14 homers since the 2005 all-star break.

"I know the Phillies people weren't happy how he takes so many pitches ... its like he's happier with a bases-loaded walk than driving in two runs with a base hit.

"Last time I'd looked, he had seen more pitches than any other National Leaguer this year. That's what you want your leadoff hitter doing.

"Remember Frank Thomas in the early 1990s? He'd come up, a run down, with two men on and happily take a walk, rather than expanding the strike zone to drive in a run."
