What a major-league scout says: "I wished we had picked him up, I tried. I had a good report in on him. He can turn around a fastball in a hurry.

"How about that, he's not good enough to stick with Kansas City, the Royals put him on waivers and he's good enough to play for the Yankees.

"I saw him play for Team Canada when they had an exhibition game against the Jays at Dunedin. He hit a 97-98 m.p.h. fastball back through the box that nearly took A.J. Burnett's head off.

"He's not the splash addition of a Bobby Abreu, but this is another example of what makes (Yankees) Brian Cashman a good GM. They don't let anyone who can help slip through the cracks."
