The book on ... Ichiro Suzuki

What a major-league scout says:

"He's a very good defensive player, among right fielders, I'd take him over Vladimir Guerrero. Guerrero has a stronger arm, but in some ways he's like Raul Mondesi -- never met a cutoff man he couldn't overthrow. Not Suzuki. He's always on the mark, takes better routes to balls and has an outstanding arm.

"What he's have hit-wise (1,261 hits)? He's going to wind up with 1,300-1,400 hits in his first six years.

"The only thing he doesn't do is hit with power, but I've seen him do it, he doesn't do it consistently.

"We try and pitch him nothing but off-speed. If we throw him a fastball it's never for a strike.

"The book on him is throw him only breaking balls and changeups, he'll kill you with fastballs."
