As in excellence over a one-week period.

Jason Chatwood, of the Colby Trojans, was all that and then some, hitting .454 (10-for-22).

Kris Webber, meanwhile, turned in what for him is becoming a routine effort.

Webber pitched a complete game for the 10th-ranked Central Missouri Mules to move to 6-0.

For Webber it was another outing which has become the norm for him, which means he’s having an excellent season on the mound.

In his six starts the unbeaten Webber has been asked to pitch 48 innings (three seven-inning games and three nine-inning games. He has two complete outings, working deep into each game, save for two blow outs, for a total of 39 innings as a starter.

So Webber (junior, Langley, BC), of the Central Missouri Mules and Chatwood (sophomore, Innisfall, Alta.), of the Colby Trojans, are our SLAM! Canadian Baseball College Players of the Week honours for Week Seven.

The weekly award, belated as it is, recognizes the best of the 685 Canadians who play baseball south of the border.

Chatwood and Webber beat out the likes of CF_Nichiolas Boisvert (senior, Laval, Que.) of the Lynn Fighting Knights; RHP Greg Byron (junior, North York, Ont.), of the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes; SS Steve Condotta (senior, Mississauga, Ont.), of the Florida Tech Panthers; C Joe Leghorn (junior, Victoria, BC), of the New Mexico State Aggies and RF Brad McElroy (junior, London, Ont.), of the Charlotte ‘49ers.

How the week went for Chatwood and the rest of the Trojans, a haven for Canucks, as he:

_ Singled, knocked in two runs and stole a base in a 5-3 win over Heston. DH Marshall MacDonald (sophomore, Red Deer, Alta.) had two hits. Robert Hogue (sophomore, Edmonton Alta.) pitched the final inning to gain the save. He allowed an unearned run while allowing one hit. He struck out two.

_ Doubled twice and knocked in a a pair of runs in a 12-1 victory over Heston. MacDonald homered, doubled and knocked in two runs. RP Stephen Hogue (sophomore, Edmonton Alta.) pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

_ Went 4-for-4 with an RBI in an 11-3 win over the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. C MacDonald had one hit and knocked in three runs. DH Aaron Dunsmore (freshman, Calgary, Alta.) doubled and singled, while 3B Byron Whitford (sophomore, Red Deer, Alta.) added a double.

_ Was hitless, but stole a base in a 2-0 loss to Hutchinson. MacDonald had a double. 

_ Singled in a 6-5 win against the Dodge City Conquistadors. MacDonald doubled and singled. Whitford doubled in a run, while Dunsmore singled.

_ Had two hits in a 7-5 victory against Dodge City. C_MacDonald doubled in two runs, while LF Dunsmore singled in a run. RHP Josh Turner (sophomore, Spruce Grove, Alta.) pitched six innings for the win. He allowed three unearned runs on two hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Steve Hogue worked the final inning, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and two walks. He fanned one. _

In all, 10 Canadians appeared on the Colby roster in the spring. Chatwood has transferred to Gonzaga University, MacDonald to Dayton and Turner to West Alabama.

The Alberta-Kansas pipeline is a result of Colby assistajnt coach Matt Dickson (Edmonton, Alta.).

Chatwood had excellent coaching from the start with the Innisfail Indians playing for his mom Kathy Lalor, who coached along with Murray Meikal.

When he turned bantam age it was off to play for the Red Deer Braves. Besides Red Deer, Chatwood also played for Team Alberta youth selects in 2003 and 2004 and the Canada Summer Games in 2005 under coaches Terry Murphy, Cam Leavens and Blair Kubicek, who runs the highly-successful Prairie Baseball Academy.

How the season has gone for Webber beginning with his previous outing at he pitched:

_ A complete game, four hitter in a 6-1 win against Pittsburgh State at Crane Stadium in Warrensburg, Mo. ijn his most recent outing. Webber allowed one run on four hits and a walk, while fanning two.

_ A complete game five-hitter for a 7-2 triumph against the Washburn Icabods. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- one five hits and two walks. He struck out five, throwing 102 pitches.

_ Eight scoreless innings to combine on a seven-hit shutout in a 4-0 win against the Ashland Eagles. Webber allowed six hits and fanned five.

_ Seven innings, in a no decision as the Mules rallied to beat the Upper Iowa Peacocks 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Webber allowed one unearned run on five hits.

_ Five scoreless innings in an 18-2 romp over the Mary Marauders. He allowed three hits and three walks, while striking out five in his 68-pitch outing. 

_ Five scoreless in an 8-0 win against Christian Brothers. Webber allowed three hits and fanned four in his 56-pitch outing.  

_ Five scoreless as he came on in relief as Central Missouri edged Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-1 in 10 innings.

Counting his one relief appearance he had worked 44 innings allowing four runs, for a sparking earned run average of 0.82. He allowed one run in his first 30 innings of mound work We’re missing a box from one game but to date we have him with six walks and 22 strikeouts.

He has the opportunity to pitch 48 innings (three seven-inning games and three nine-inning games. He has two complete games, working 39 innings as a starter.

The 6-foot-3 196 pounder, whose best pitch is a curve ball, transferred to Central Missouri after attending Bossier Parish for two years.

Webber pitched for the White Rock Tritons and coaches  Shawn Corness and Jeff Danton for the Vancouver Braves and then White Rock Tritons under Don Archer and Corness in the B.C. Premier League and then for the Langley Blaze and coach Doug Mathieson in the summer collegiate league.

Canadians who were honoured:

_ Nicholas Boisvert (senior, Laval, Que.), of the Lynn Fighting Knights, was named the player of the week for the Sunshine State Conference. Boisvert hit . 600 (9-for-16), with three RBIs and eight runs scored. It’s the first time a Lynn player has received the honor.

_ RHP Matt Braumberger (senior, Sudbury, Ont.), of the Friends Falcons was named the Kansas Conference pitcher of the week.

_ OF Tyson Gillies (freshman, Kamloops, B.C), of the Iowa Western Reivers won player of the week honours. Gillies had a .500 average with three RBIs scored three times and had a .625 on base percentage. Gillies maintained a 3.769 GPA.

_ RF Bryan Abrey (freshman, Richmond, BC) hit his 11th double and stole his ninth base as the Merced Blue Devils beat the Reedley Tigers 10-0 at Reedley, Calif. ... Abrey singled in a 7-3 loss to Fresno City at Fresno, Calif. ... Abrey singled, knocked in a run and stole two bases as Merced beat the West Hills Falcons in Coalinga, Calif.

_ Brent Ashbaugh (junior, Tara, Ont.) singled as the Montreat Cavaliers edged Brevard 1-0. ... Ashbaugh knocked in a run in an 8-5 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan. ... Ashbaugh singled and knocked in a run in a Montreat loss to Tennessee Wesleyan.

_ 1B Kevin Atkinson (sophomore, Surrey, BC) had a pair of doubles, knocking in two runs, as the New Mexico Thunderbirds beat the Western Texas Westerners 8-0. ... LHP J.R. Robinson (freshman, Burnaby, BC) pitched six solid innings but did not figure in the decision as the T-Birds rallied late to beat Western Texas 8-2. Robinson allowed one run on five hits and three walks. He struck out three. Atkinson had two hits, driving in three. ... Atkinson had four hits, including a double, as he drove in four runs in a 14-9 win against Western Texas. ... Atkinson doubled in an 11-1 win against Western Texas.

_ Jamie Bailey (freshman, Petrolia, Ont.) singled and stole two bases as the St. Clair Saints beat the Tiffin Dragons 7-5. ... Bailey singled and swiped a base in a 7-1 loss to Tiffin. ... Bailey had three hits, knocked in a run and stole a base as St. Clair knocked off the Western Ontario Mustangs 11-5. Mike Riddell (freshman, Innerkip, Ont.) and Craig Jacques (freshman, Delhi, Ont.) each singled and knocked in a run. ... Bailey singled in a 6-1 win against Western.

_ RP Steve (Sgt.) Bako (freshman, Mississauga, Ont.) was saddled with the loss in a 4-3 Rockhurst Hawks setback to Quincy in front of 126 fans at QU Stadium in Quincy, Ill. Bako worked an inning allowing four runs on two hits and five walks. Bako is now 1-2.

_ DH Steven Baldinelli (junior, Niagara Falls, Ont.) had three hits, including a double, as the Niagara Purple Eagles edged the Duquesne Dukes 8-6 at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pa. Baldinelli also swiped a base. RP Geoff Strong (freshman, Welland, Ont.) pitched 1 2/3 innings for his second save of the season. Strong allowed one run on one hit and three walks. he struck out a pair. 2B Harrison Harber (junior, Kanata, Ont.) knocked in a run and stole a base, as SS Andrew Macdonald (junior, Charlottetown, PEI) had a hit. ... Harber had two hits including a triple in a 7-2 loss to the Fairfield Stags at Houlihan Park in Bronx, N.Y. Harber also swiped a base. 1B Timothy Cozier (freshman, Ajax, Ont.) and Macdonald each singled. _ RP Eitan Barbalat (junior, Thornhill, Ont.) pitched 4 1/3 innings as the Bradley Braves fell 9-3 to the Northern Illinois Huskies before 125 fans at O’Brien Field in Peoria, Ill. Barbalat allowed one run on four hits and struck out a pair.

_ RP Alexander Beaulieu (junior, Levis, Que.) gained the save, with two scoreless innings as the Albany Great Danes knocked off the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers before 292 fans at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green, Ky. Beaulieu allowed one hit and walked three. He struck out two, picking up his second save.

_ CF Andrew Bell (junior, Surrey, BC) hit a solo homer and singled as the Salem International Tigers dropped and 11-1 decision to California-Pennsylvania Vulcans at Roadman Park in California, Pa.

_ 1B Mike Bell (freshman, Oakville, Ont.) doubled in a 6-3 Kishwaukee Kougars beat Copiah-Lincoln.

_ C Yannick Bergeron (senior, Sherbrooke, Que.) homered, doubled and drove in two runs for the 19th-ranked St. Edward's Hilltoppers in a 19-12 win against the Texas A@M International Dustdevils before 256 fans at the Student Activities Field in Laredo, Tx. ... DH_Bergeron homered, singled and knocked in a pair of runs in a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M in front of 230 fans. ... _ RHP_Drew Boyer (freshman, Millet, Alta.) took the loss in a 6-4 Central Coppin State Eagles loss to the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks at Hawks Stadium in Princess Anne, Md. Boyer pitched a complete game allowing six runs on eight hits and five walks. He struck out three.

_ RHP Matt Braumberger (senior, Sudbury, Ont.) was outstanding, pitching the Friends Falcons to a 1-0 win against the Tabor Blue Jays. Braumberger pitched a two hitter and struck out two.

_ RHP Josh Brink (sophomore, Abbotsford, BC) wound up with the loss as the Western Nevada Wildcats were edged 4-3 by the Eastern Utah Golden Eagles before 125 fans at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City, Nev. Brink pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out two and is now 3-3.

_ RHP Andrew Brock (sophomore, Burnaby, BC) pitched five innings taking the loss as the 12th-ranked Albertson Coyotes dropped a 7-4 decision to Concordia-Oregon before 100 fans at The Yard in Portland, Ore. Brock allowed seven runs -- five earned -- as he gave up six hits and walked three. He fanned two and is now 2-2.

_ RHP Justin Bye (junior, Tillsonburg, Ont.) took the loss as the Barton Cougars lose 16-4 to the 20th-ranked Mount Olive Trojans knocked off at Nixon Field in Wilson, N.C. Bye pitched six innings allowing eight runs on 13 hits. He struck out two and is now 1-4. Quinn Fuller (junior, London, Ont.) singled and then pitched a scoreless inning. ... Fuller worked an inning allowing one run on one hit in a 13-9 loss to Mount Olive. ... Fuller pitched a scoreless inning in a 13-4 loss to Mount Olive. ... Bye pitched the third inning in an 8-7 loss to the Georgia Bobcats before 100 fans. Bye allowed two runs on one hit and a walk. _ RHP Greg Byron (junior, North York, Ont.) had a two-win week for the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. First he beat Wayland Baptist 3-2 at Wilder Field in Plainview, Tx. there in plain view for everyone to see it. Byron worked six innings allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out six. Andrew Masojc (junior, Tecumseh, Ont.) then picked up the save working a scoreless seventh. Masojc allowed one hit, walked one and struck out a man. ... Byron then beat the St.Mary Spires 6-3. In this one, he pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits. He fanned five. Again, Masojc pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the save. He allowed a hit and a walk, while fanning two. At the plate, 3B Masojc doubled, singled and knocked in two runs. 2B Fabricio Montoya (junior, Calgary, Alta.) singled and drove in a run. ... Wilson allowed three base runners: one hit and two walks, as he struck out a team season-high nine. Wilson dropped his ERA to 0.56, which leads all Wolverine pitchers with at least one start. Wilson has 18 strikeouts in 16 innings of work this season. The Wolverines jumping Oakland (6-14) with a five-run first after Wilson struck out the side to start the game. Wilson had his toughest inning in the second, allowing a walk and single -- the lone Oakland hit of the game -- to give the Golden Grizzlies two runners in the same inning for the only time. Wilson got out of the jam on a 4-6-3 double play. Wilson had three 1-2-3 innings and retired 14 of the last 16 batters he faced. He collected his team-leading third win of the year to move to 3-0.

_ Ryan Yakura (freshman, Pickering, Ont.) had three hits to help the Salem International Tigers to a 2-1 victory against Liberty State in a triple header at Frank Loria Field. But it was Andrew Bell (junior Surrey, BC) who singled home Wade Hill (junior, Stoney Creek, Ont.) for the game winner. ... Tyler Plumpton (freshman, Peterborough, Ont.) and Hill each had two hits in an 11-0 win. Yakura added a double. ... RHP Paul DiIulio (freshman, Newmarket, Ont.) pitched six scoreless for the win in a 2-0 win against Liberty State. He struck out six and allowed only five hits. The Tiger's jumped to a lead in the bottom sixth when Yakura tripled home a run and he later scored. Yakura had five hits on the day.

Zarney allowed two runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out one. ... Zarney also have another no decision, pitching five innings in a 3-2 loss to Lewis, the winning run scoring in the top of the ninth. Zarney allowed one run on three hits and a walk. He fanned five.

_ RHP Adam Zorzit (sophomore, Woodbridge, Ont.) allowed two runs in a 19-12 Texas A@M International Dustdevils lost to the 19th-ranked St. Edward’s Hilltoppers at the Student Activities Field in Laredo, Tx. The former SLAM! Canadian Baseball College Player of the Week, walked a pair.
