By BOB ELLIOTT -- For SLAM! Sports

In his first two seasons Jeff Thomson pitched in nine games for the Northeastern Huskies.

He did not record a victory.

As the Huskies kicked off the 2007 season in Florida he picked up two wins in Northeastern’s first three games, against college opponents.

Welcome to the rotation kiddo.

Meanwhile, in the same time zone one state north Jean-Francios Neveu was having a similar two-win week, one as a starter and one out of the bullpen for the Brewton-Parker Barons.

So, Thomson (sophomore, Grande Pointe, Man.) and Neveu (senior, Petit-Rocher, NB) are our SLAM! Canadian Baseball College Players of the Week, for Week Four.

The weekly award, roughly on time, recognizes the best of the 678 Canadians playing south of the border.

They beat out the likes of 2B Daniel Boudreau (junior, Coquitlam, BC), of the Dickinson State Blue Hawks; RF Nolan Bracken (junior, Regina, Sask.), of Dickinson State; Marcel Champagnie (sophomore, Bolton, Ont.), of the Kaskaskia Blue Devils; SS David Cooper (junior, Edmonton, Alta.), of the Mount Olive Trojans; Steele Lewis (sophomore, Essex, Ont.), of the Kellog Bruins; RF Colin Moro (senior, Calgary, Alta.), of the Louisiana State Shreveport Pilots; RF Justin Pennell (junior Toronto, Ont.), of the Ouachita Baptist Tigers and Michael Roeder (junior, Waterloo, Ont.), of the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

Thomson and Neveu come from small town Canada.

Petit-Rocher (population: 1,966) is on Chaleur Bay 20 KM northwest of Bathurst. Petit-Rocher, which translates to Little Rock, was founded in 1797 by Acadian settlers.

Grande Pointe (pop: 450, at least it was in 1997 during the Manitoba Flood) is located in the rural municipality of Ritchot.

Enough of the history/geography lesson ... on with the regular show.
