Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has decided, for now, to give up driving after two incidents of reckless driving and speeding in eight months.

Dodgers president Stan Kasten said Puig told him Thursday he has hired a cousin to drive him around for the time being.

"I give him credit for taking that step if nothing else," Kasten said on ESPNLA 710.

Puig was clocked at 110 mph on Florida's Alligator Alley on Dec. 28 while driving his 2013 Mercedes with his mother in the car. The posted speed limit is 70 mph. He was released by police several hours after his arrest.

"We have spoken to Yasiel and made it clear that we, as an organization, are very disappointed in his recent behavior," the Dodgers said in a statement at the time. "This is a very serious issue to us and we will continue to educate him and strive to further develop his growth off the field and as a member of this community."

The 23-year-old Puig, who finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting last season, also was charged in April with speeding, reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was traveling 97 mph in a 50 mph zone while he was with the Dodgers' Class AA team.

Those charges were dismissed in November after he performed 12 hours of community service.

Puig joined the Dodgers in June and hit .319 with 19 home runs in 104 games last season.

Florida authorities released video of Puig's December arrest on Wednesday. The video shows the officer scolding Puig for driving his white Mercedes so fast while his mother was in the car.
