A young Canadian baseball player has been forced to sit out the rest of the summer after a skydiver unintentionally drop kicked him Saturday during a pre-game ceremony.

Mattingly Romanin, a Burlington, Ont., native who will play a sophomore season at Chicago State University this fall, suffered a concussion because of the incident.

Prior to his game for the Hannibal Caveman, a summer college team based in Missouri, Romanin stood still as three skydivers participated in pre-game festivities.

All was well and good until one diver veered off course towards a group of players. Romanin didn't budge as he was told to let the divers manoeuvre their way to the ground.

“It is unfortunate that it ended my season, and I'm a little upset about that, but you know what, it's just a freak accident and there's nothing we can do now," Romanin told the Quincy Herald-Whig Tuesday.

"So I'm still trying to be upbeat it, and I'm still laughing with everybody.”

Romanin, feeling fine after the incident, played the entire nine-inning game Saturday. The next morning, however, his head throbbed before a doctor on Monday told Romanin he had been concussed.
