Canada captured a bronze medal without retiring a single out Saturday at the 39th annual  IBAF Baseball World Cup in Panama.

Rains washed out the game against Team USA so the teams will share bronze medals.

Eight-ranked Canada, managed by Ernie Whitt was 8-3 in the tourney, beating Puerto Rico, Japan, Greece, Chinese Taipei, The Netherlands, Team USA, Venezuela, South Korea, while losing to Panama, Australia and Cuba. Team USA was 7-4.

This is the second consecutive World Cup Canada has medalled winning bronze at the 2009 World Cup in Italy, the first medal of any kind that Canada has won in the history of the IBAF World Cup.

The team was awarded its medals Saturday night at the closing ceremonies following the gold medal game between Cuba and the Netherlands.

There wasn’t any rain date as the teams leave Sunday for Lagos de Moreno, Mex. and the Pan Am Games Oct. 19-25.

Canada opens play Wednesday against Puerto Rico.
