Andrea Dewar started her water polo career at age 14 with the Dollard-des-Ormeaux water polo club, a team she still represents at national championships. It didn't take her long to realize she had a lot of talent in the sport.
"I was hooked," she said. "The first time you play against other countries, for your country and hear your anthem, it is so moving. Getting that first Canada bathing suit really makes an impact."
Dewar is an experienced player having represented Canada at FINA World Cups, world championships and the Pan Am Games over the last four years. She also played in Italy for two seasons in a pro league.
In 2000, she trained with the national team but decided to focus on her education rather than put it on the shelf for a few months to pursue her Olympic dream. She graduated in physical therapy at McGill University in 2001. Her husband Peter Carpenter is a swim coach at the Pointe-Claire Swim Club.
