Cora Campbell, a 30-year-old veteran on the Canadian women's water polo team comes from a line of elite players. She is one of four sisters who have played on either the senior or junior national teams. Trina Campbell, 32, is the oldest of the sisters. At the 1998 world championships, Trina, Cora and Kimberley Campbell were all on the team. Shawna, 25, the youngest sister, played on the junior national team.
Cora, however, has been the star of the group. A left-handed driver, Cora has been Canada's leading scorer at most of its tournaments. "She's one of the most dangerous lefties in the water," said Ahmed El-Awadi, an assistant coach with the Canadian team. "Now that she's a little older she's a smarter player as well."
She was named to the world all star team by USA Water Polo in 1999 and named the world's best player by World Water Polo magazine. She made her national senior team debut in 1992 as Canada placed second at the Sicily Cup. She has played at all the major tournaments since then including a fourth place finish at the world championships last year. She was also professional player in Italy and the Netherlands from 1994 to 1998. She currently plays professionally for Ortigia in Sicily and once led all of FINA in scoring.
She has a Bachelor's degree in Commerce earned from the University of Calgary in Management and Information Technology.
