Four years ago, Simon Whitfield was Canada's sole representative in men's triathlon in Sydney. This year he has a teammate with training partner Brent McMahon, a former world junior championship medallist and a four-time Canadian junior champion, qualifying for Athens. McMahon's talent in triathlon isn't surprising since he practiced a variety sports including mountain biking, water polo, rock climbing and soccer growing up along with triathlon- a sport he first competed in at age 10. So far this season he's posted two top-10 World Cup results.
