Canada appears to have another 100-metre hurdling star in Priscilla Lopes. The University of Nebraska sociology student picked up where world champion and teammate Perdita Felicien left off on the NCAA circuit this season. Lopes won the NCAA 60-metre indoor crown and placed second at the NCAA outdoor championships in June clocking 12.64 seconds the fifth fastest time ever on the circuit.
She then assured her Olympic qualification at the national championships and Olympic trials finishing second to Felicien as Canada qualified three entries in the women's 100 hurdles for the Games. "It's amazing for Canada. I don't think we've had that many to represent Canada for a long while. It's going to be a great experience."
She first competed for Canada at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Chile in the 100 hurdles and 100 sprint.
