Carmen Douma-Hussar made a major breakthrough in 2004 whether she was indoors, outdoors or in the woods.
She won the silver medal in the women's 1,500 metres at the world indoor championships in Budapest with a Canadian record time this past March. For 24 hours, it was the best ever result by a Canadian woman at the indoor worlds. The next day Perdita Felicien won the gold in the 60-metre hurdles. Two weeks after the indoor worlds, she helped Canada to the team bronze at the world cross country running championships.
Douma-Hussar reinforced her position as one of Canada's rising track stars by earning a spot on her first Olympic team at the national championships and trials in July. She also earned her first career victory on overseas soil this year at an outdoor meet in the Netherlands.
She works as an assistant coach at Villanova University where she starred for several seasons. She finished her Villanova running career a nine-time All-American with three NCAA individual championships and 15 BIG EAST Conference individual titles. Her three NCAA crowns came in the 1998 indoor mile, the 1998 outdoor 1500m run and the 2000 indoor mile.
Douma-Hussar graduated from Villanova in December of 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She resides with her husband Chris at Ardmore, Pa.
