Pierre Browne has shown flashes of brilliance through his career but hasn't been able to solidify his position as Canada's best 100-metre sprinter. He'll get that opportunity in Athens after a great performance at the Canadian championships and Olympic trials in July.
Browne won the race in 10.13 seconds with an impressive second half to beat two-time defending champion Nicolas Macrozonaris. "That was my best race this year, for once conditions were ideal for me," said Browne. "The way I got out othe starting blocks was what I was most happy with. I've always been strong at the finish. At the Olympics I'm just going to go at it round by round. The important thing I need to remember is to always be aggressive."
In high school, Browne represented Victoria Park Secondary School in North York and won the gold medal in the 100 and 200 dash at the Ontario Federation Secondary School Athletic Association Finals in 1999. A star sprinter at Mississipi State, Browne raced the 200 and 4X100 relay at the Sydney Games. In 2002 he won the bronze medal in the 100 at the Commonwealth Games and last year reached the semifinals in the 100 at the world championships just a few feeks after a silver rmedal performance at the NCAA championships.
