Ivett Gonda competes in the women's taekwondo 49 kilos featherweight category, and is only the second Canadian ever to make an Olympic team in the sport. Dominique Bosshart was the sole Canadian entry at the 2000 Sydney Games, where taekwondo was on the Olympic program for the first time.

While only 18-years-old, Gonda has solid international experience. Last year, she placed fifth at both the Pan Am Games and the world championships. She is also a four-time national champion and a three-time B.C., provincial champion.

Gonda won her 49 kilo weight division at the Pan Am regional Olympic qualifiers in January to make the Olympics edging out Guatemala's Euda Carlas. She won all four fights there, carrying on the success she posted at the Paris World qualifiers in December.
