Courtenay Stewart heads to her first Olympics as the youngest member on the Canadian synchronized team and also one of the busiest. She'll compete in both the team event and duet with partner Fanny Létourneau. The pair gained importance experience last year placing fifth at the world championships and second at the Pan Am Games.
"After five years with the same partner I never thought Courtney and I would gel so quickly," said Létourneau who won the world championship bronze with Dias in 2001. "Courtenay is a super talent and our styles and physique work well together."
Stewart started synchro at age seven and even trained with the U.S. National Team for two years. At the U.S. nationals in 2002 she won gold in duet and figures. She plans to study medicine at Stanford University.
