Fanny Létourneau grew up scared of the water, even though her parents owned an in-ground pool. She was actually more interested in figure skating. But after she watched Carolyn Waldo and Michelle Cameron win Olympic gold in 1988, she started swimming and synchronized swimming lessons simultaneously.

Today she is one of Canada's top synchro stars and a true team leader. Létourneau will compete in both the team event and duet at the Olympics with new partner Courtenay Stewart. Létourneau has been a national team member since 1994 and moved to Etobicoke in 1997 to train at the Centre of Excellence with the national team.

Létourneau won the Helen Vanderburg Trophy as the top age group swimmer (15-17) in 1996. A year later she was a finalist at the Canadian Sport Awards for junior female athlete of the year. At the 2000 Olympics she won bronze in the team event and was fifth in duet with former partner Claire Carver-Dias Létourneau and Dias won duet bronze at the 2001 world championships.
