Former national junior team member Nicole Cargill enters her first Olympic Games. She qualified for the team by placing ninth at the Olympic team trials in December 2003 which earned her athlete of the month honors from SaskSport, an umbrella group for amateur sports in Saskatchewan.
On March 18, 2004, she was named Saskatchewan's Female Athlete of the year. This is the first time that a synchronized swimmer has ever won the award.
Her path to the Olympics began in November 2002 when she competed at the Synchro Canada national team trials. After the final swim, she was ranked ninth nationally, which enabled her to join the national A team and qualified her to compete at the Olympic team trials.
