She's 16-years-old and on paper she's Canada's best medal hope in swimming at the Olympic Games. If one teenager can carry that pressure it's Brittany Reimer, one of the most exciting young swimmers to come through the Canadian ranks in years.
She burst on the international stage last year shattering three Canadian records and reaching finals at the world championships in the 400, 800 and 1,500 freestyles. She was the youngest swimmer in each of those finals and placed fifth, fourth and sixth respectively in those events.
"I'm a really competitive person and I want to win," said Reimer. "I've wanted to go to the Olympics ever since I can remember. I train really hard and try my best."
Her first important exposure to international swimming was in January 2003 at the Olympic Youth Festival in Australia. She won two gold and four silver medals and the performances were a personal breakthrough for her.
Reimer started swimming at age six and by nine she was already identified by her club as a unique talent and joined a winter swim club as well.
