Mark Johnston just squeezed into a spot on the Olympic team at trials by qualifying as a potential member on the men's 4X200 freestyle relay, one of Canada's top medal hopes in swimming. Johnston's experience could come in handy for the young Canadian squad desperate to show it is on the right path to future success.

Johnston was born and raised in St. Catharines but moved to Vancouver in 1988 turning down scholarship offers from U.S., schools. He started swimming at age three and made a big impression at the 1996 Olympic trials, even tough he didn't make the team. He won a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle at the 2002 World Short Course Championships.
