For motivation Mike Brown turns to his VCR and watches a documentary on Victor Davis and Alex Baumann two of the greatest swimmers in Canadian history. It certainly has helped. Brown has emerged as an international force in the men's 200-metre breaststroke.
He made his first big impact in 2002. At the Commonwealth Games he won a surprise bronze medal, a rare highlight in a disappointing Canadian swimming performance at those Games. Then a few weeks later he was fourth at the Pan Pacific Championships beating the Canadian record. Morgan Knabe reclaimed the record last year.
He studies and swims at the University of Minnesota and returns home in the summer to train with coach Nandi Kormendi in Perth.
