Sasha Olson only started playing softball when she went to University at Simon Fraser University. She wanted to join a sport to make new friends. She signed up for intramural softball but accidentally attended the varsity team's tryout.
Though Olson did not have a lot of technical skills or game experience, she had an excellent attitude toward the game and good athletic ability.
Mike Renney, head coach of the SFU women's team remembers: "she was a green player from a little town but she had a great attitude and she was a project worth investment."
"I clued-in right away that I was in over my head," added Olson, "but I was having fun and kept with it. They basically kept me based on my potential."
She is currently a high school teacher a Valemont Secondary specializing in business and computers. She graduated with a Bachelor of education at SFU in 1999. Her younger sister Charlotte plays basketball at SFU and also made the team as a walk-on.
