Infielder and team captain Kristy Odamura is one of the most experienced players on a young national women's softball team. Odamura is one of three returnees from the 2000 Olympic team and has also worn Canadian colours at two world championships, one world juniors and last year's Pan Am Games.
She and Erin White have played together for 15 years and Erin's father was their coach as youngsters. Odamura and White, along with their team, hope to make Canadian history by winning Canada's first medal in softball at the Olympic Games. Women's softball became an official Olympic sport in 1996.
"It will be a tough road to get there," said Odamura. "But we believe that it will be possible for us to reach the podium if we are all working towards the same goal."
Odamura studies chemistry and biology at the University of Hawaii and plans to pursue a career in sports medicine. She became a certified athletic trainer last year.
