Infielder Sheena Lawrick made her national team debut last year at the Pan American Games helping Canada to the silver medal.
She was on Team Alberta at the 2001 Canada Games and that year was named the province's top minor league player. She has also enjoyed success in ringette earning both provincial and national titles.
Lawrick tore her ACL in her left knee and underwent reconstructive surgery on April 12. She injured the knee playing for the University of Nebraska in a game against Baylor running through first base. She actually went out to her position the next inning but was called back by the coaches. Earlier in the year she was back at practice one day after suffering a broken jaw when a deflected ball hit her in the mouth.
"Sheena is a team captain and a leader on and off the field," said Nebraska head coach Rhonda Revelle. "She is the first to practice and the last to leave every day."
While her status for the Olympics is uncertain, head coach Mike Renney felt it was worth the risk to put the talented Lawrick on the Olympic team roster.
At Nebraska she was an offensive force this season hitting .337 with four home runs and 24 RBI's in 36 games in what is usually a low scoring sport. She is studying child development at Nebraska.
