Susan Nattrass is a living legend in Canadian sport. She heads to Athens for her fifth Olympic Games to compete in the women's trap shotgun competition. Nattrass is a six-time world champion - her first worlds appearance was in 1969 - and she held the world record in her event from 1974 to 1989. She was Canada's athlete of the year in 1981.
In 1976 she was the first woman to compete at the Olympics in trap shooting and in 1990 the first to do the same at the Commonwealth Games. She spearheaded a five-year battle for a separate women's trap event at the Olympics and it finally happened four years ago in Sydney. The Commonwealth Games followed suit two years later in Manchester.
Dr. Susan Nattrass works in medical research in Seattle. Previously she was athletic director at St. Mary's University in Halifax. Her father was a 1964 Olympian in trapshooting as well.
