John Curtis qualified for the Olympics in the Tornado class with partner Oskar Johansson. They are currently ranked 15th in the world. So far this season they have posted two seventh place finishes at international regattas incuding the prestigious Kiel Week event in Germany this past June.
Curtis has paid his dues in the sport. He's dreamed of competing in the Olympics since the age of 10, and 15 years of hard work, including 14 on the senior national team, has finally paid off.
While attending law school at Queen's University in Kingston, Curtis revived the school's sailing program and enjoyed success competing against U.S., teams. Curtis has also coached the Queen's sailing team.
Curtis and Johansson are dedicating their journey to Athens to their fellow sailor Nathan Cowan who was killed in a car accident in 2002 at the age of 25. Curtis also loves to cross country ski and finished 93rd out of more than 600 entries in the 50 kilometre Keskinada race in 1999.
