Deirdre Crampton is the bow on the women's three-member Yngling crew with skip Lisa Ross and middle Chantal Leger. The Yngling is a new sailing event at the Games. The Yngling (pronounced "ING-ling") is a sleek and seaworthy small 21-foot racing keelboat often described as a cross between a planing dinghy and a keelboat.
Crampton discovered sailing by accident when she was seven-years-old, during a summer day trip with her mother who was working on a television piece about disabled sailing. The sailors her mother was filming asked Crampton to join them and she hasn't stopped since. Crampton has been racing since she was 14.
She has represented Canada at five world championships (sailing the Europe dinghy, the Laser Radial, and the Yngling). Deirdre has also completed a degree in theatre film and creative writing from the University of British Columbia. She has also successfully produced several award winning short films.
