Barney Williams rowed internationally for many years in the late 1990s, but took time off to support his wife Buffy Alexander in her run to an Olympic bronze medal in women's eights 2000. Williams returned in the fall of 2002, and made an immediate impact, as he stroked the fours to a gold medal in Milan last year at the world championships. Williams is one of the most exuberant members on the Canadian rowing team and gets noticed with his wild hairdos.
By the way, Buffy Williams is on the Olympic team again this year, this time in pairs.
Barney Williams attended Upper Canada College and the University of Victoria and completed his studies at the National Institute of Broadcasting in 2000. He lists as his future goals to build and run a resot in the Carribean and own a log cabin in B.C.
