Tom Herschmiller is one few returning members from the 2000 Canadian Olympic team in men's rowing. In Sydney, he helped the men's eight to seventh spot. He was inserted in the fours crew last year and he helped Canada to a surprise gold medal victory over powerhouses Germany and Britain.

Herschmiller studied at Princeton University and majored in history. He also successfully completed pre-med requirements. He also won the Canadian Studies Award for thesis work comparing development of the Canadian and American health care systems.

He worked as a research analyst at Medarex, a biotechnology company in Princeton His plans are to either attend medical school, work on Wall Street or join the Department of Foreign Affairs.
