Jonathan Beare returns to the Olympics once again as a crew member in the men's lightweight fours. After graduating from Western with a BA in economics, Beare joined the Canadian national team in 1995. He placed third in the lightweight men's eight at the 1996 and 1997 world championships before going on to place seventh overall as a member of the men's lightweight fours at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. At last year's world championships in Milan, Beare finished fifth in the men's lightweight fours.

Beare started rowing in 1988 while in high school but initially quit because he felt there was too much dryland training and was anxious to get on the water.
