Kylie Stone placed 14th all around last year at the world championships in Anaheim, the highest international placing ever by a Canadian in the event. The result capped a great string of international showings by Stone which started in 2002 at the Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal on floor.

Stone enrolled in gymnastics at age five because she used to tumble around the floor at home. She won the national junior title in 2001 and it as then she began to dream about potentially going to the Olympics. She has been coached her entire gymnastics life by Stephania Illiesu at the Stampede City Gymnastics Club.

‘’From the beginning she was physically strong,’’ Illiesu said. ‘’She is willing to try anything and always working hard. At the world championships she did all four routines exactly the way they were suppose to be done. She performed with style, pride, passion. She showed she’s a pro and can compete at this level.’’
