Amélie Plante’s decision to pursue her Olympic dream has paid off. Plante finished third in the all around competition at the Olympic trials in July and that’s all she needed to get a ticket to Athens for her first Games. "I think I felt all the emotions, I was happy and relieved at the same time,’’ she said after the trials. Plante’s enjoyed plenty of international success in her career which includes four world championship appearances.

Plante’s best event is the uneven bars on which she executes the rarely attempted Def maneuver. It is a release move from the upper bar in which the gymnast does a one and a half twist before catching the bar blindly. She is also popular with her teammates. When the Olympic spot was sealed she was mobbed and hoisted in celebration.
